Dana Christianson, M.D.

Dr. ChristiansonDr. Dana Christianson practices General Ophthalmology. He specializes in small incision-no stitch cataract surgery and laser corrective and cosmetic surgery. He also performs eyelid rejuvenation surgery and other plastic surgery around the eyes. He has extensive experience in managing glaucoma, diabetes as it relates to the eye and macular degeneration.

Dr. Christianson is a native of Worcester, Mass. He received his B.A. degree summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of New Hampshire. After two years of research in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, he obtained his M.D. degree (Alpha Omega Alpha) from Vanderbilt Medical School in Nashville, TN. His internship in Internal Medicine was also at Vanderbilt and he completed his eye residency at Barnes Hospital, Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Christianson is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is also the Past President of the North Carolina Society of Ophthalmology, Past Chief of Staff of Transylvania Community Hospital, President of the Physician Hospital Organization, Secretary of the Transylvania Community Hospital Foundation and a member of the AMA, the North Carolina Medical Society and the Western North Carolina Ophthalmology Society.

Craig Secosan, M.D.

Dr. SecosanDr. Craig Secosan practices General Ophthalmology. He specializes in small incision-no stitch cataract surgery and laser corrective surgery. He has extensive experience in managing glaucoma, diabetes as it relates to the eye and macular degeneration.

Dr. Secosan is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio. He received his B.A. degree summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Emory University in Atlanta, GA. He attended medical school at Washington University in St. Louis, MO and served an internship at St. Joseph's Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He completed his eye residency at Barnes Hospital, Washington University in St. Louis.

Dr. Secosan is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is also a member of the Western North Carolina Ophthalmology Society and the North Carolina Ophthalmology Society, the AMA and the North Carolina Medical Society.

Alan M. Verm, M.D.

Dr. VermDr. Alan Verm is a General Ophthalmologist with specialty training in cataract and refractive surgery and corneal disease. As a surgeon, Dr. Verm has extensive experience with small incision cataract surgery, ReSTOR and Acrysof Toric intraocular lens surgery, refractive surgery including LASIK, and corneal transplantation. He also performs both restorative and cosmetic plastic surgery of the eyelids in the office.

In clinic, Dr. Verm manages glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes as it relates to the eye, dry eye, and corneal disease with the latest technology and techniques. Routine exams with adults and children for eye health, glasses, and contacts are available.

Originally from Texas, Dr. Verm attended Davidson College in North Carolina, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Economics. He earned his medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. Dr. Verm completed his ophthalmology residency at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, FL, which is consistently ranked as the number one training program in the country. He then completed a cornea fellowship concentrating on cataract, refractive, and transplant surgery at University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He has published scientific papers in various ophthalmic journals and has presented his research at several national meetings.

Dr. Verm and his wife, Leigh, have two children and enjoy living in this wonderful community.

Katherine E. Volatile, M.D.

Dr. VolatileDr. Katherine Volatile specializes in medical ophthalmology. She is a graduate of the Westminster Schools in Atlanta, GA. She studied Spanish and Spanish Literature in Madrid, Spain before attending Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts where she earned a degree in Psychology. After graduation from Smith, she spent a year at Yale University doing research in Pediatric Neurology. Dr. Volatile received her medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine where she also completed an internship in Internal Medicine. Dr. Volatile completed her residency in Ophthalmology at Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland, studying at the Retinal Vascular Center at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Dr. Volatile is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Daniel M. Yoder, M.D.

Dr. YoderDr. Daniel Yoder practices General Ophthalmology with sub-specialty training in diseases of the macula, retina and vitreous. In addition to performing the latest in small incision-no stitch-no shot cataract surgery, Dr. Yoder also has extensive experience managing macular degeneration, diabetes as it relates to the eye, and hypertension (high blood pressure) as it relates to the eye.

Dr. Yoder grew up in Indiana and Iowa. He received his B.S. degree summa cum laude with a double major in biology and chemistry from John Brown University in Siloam Springs, AR. He obtained his M.D. degree from Duke Medical School in Durham, NC. After finishing his internship in Roanoke, VA, Dr. Yoder completed both his ophthalmology residency and retina fellowship at the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, FL.

Dr. Yoder is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology, and a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists. He also belongs to the North Carolina Medical Society, North Carolina Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, and the Western North Carolina Ophthalmology Society. He has published scientific papers in ophthalmology journals as well as presented his research findings at a number of national and international meetings.
